How To Create Video_ts Ifo From Vob Files

Hi all,

A friend of mine sent me what we thought was video of one of our band gigs from a ways back, I think it was ripped off a DvD. I tried combining the VOB files per instructions I found using copy /b but all it gives me is about 20 seconds of video/audio, but it should be longer. These are the files I have, is there any way of knowing if this is actually usable or if something is missing?

12,288 VIDEO_TS.BUP

12,288 VIDEO_TS.IFO

282,624 VIDEO_TS.VOB

0 VTS_01_0.BUP

14,336 VTS_01_0.IFO

188,692,480 VTS_01_1.VOB

Totals to about 190 MB.

The quick and dirty way:

Make a copy of "VTS_01_1.VOB".

Rename "VTS_01_1.VOB" to "anythingyoulike.MPG" and ignore the Windows warning.

This file should play in any mediaplayer.

If you want the full DVD menu:

Place all the files in one folder and open the folder with VLC.

Or burn all the files (folder) to a DVD...

Thanks, thats the first thing I tried - it works but I only get about 20 seconds worth of video. Does that mean that is all there is? Based on the size I would expect a lot more - that amount of time would take up what, about 10 mb maybe?

An old codec and a very high (constant) bitrate can indeed give such large files...

PS: If you don't want to install VLC there's a portable version (ZIP package).

Thanks for the suggestion - I can open the whole thing with VLC, so apparently it's all there. Now the big question - how do I convert this into something usable in this day and age? Was created in the early 2000s, would like to be able to rip it to something uploadable i.e. mpeg or avi.

Any ideas?

Just to make sure I understand you correct, it's the same lenght (20 sec) in VLC ?

If that's a fact then use the renamed file (mpg or mpeg) from the first suggestion.

This is uploadable to YouTube, Vimeo,...

If not or you find the mpg/mpeg file too big to upload then "any" video converter will make an .avi or mp4 out of these files.

I personally use XMedia Recode, it's free and supports most formats but it has a bit of a learning curve.

You can search Google for other "free video converters" but pay attention when you install them, uncheck unwanted extras.

ifo, bup is not a real video file, .vob is a real video file.

Therefore, we should convert vob to other video format like mp4, mov, avi, etc

I usually use a software named iDealshare VideoGo to do this job.

In fact, it can convert between various video formats and audio formats.
